‘Dessau 1926’ reading series – April to June
Reading with Andreas Hillger and Frank Kreißler
30 June 2026,
6.00 pm,
Bauhaus Museum Dessau,
Mies-van-der-Rohe-Platz 1
The lecture series launched in January 2025 to mark the ‘100 Years of the Bauhaus in Dessau’ anniversary will continue in 2026 in a modified format. In each quarter, two out of three readings will reverse the perspective in ‘The Bauhaus Comes to the City’, whilst the third and final reading of the quarter will revert to the chronological format, focusing on important and interesting events in ‘Dessau 1926’. This will be the case for the second time at the June reading. The reading will take place on 30 June 2026, 6.00 pm, at the Bauhaus Museum Dessau, Mies-van-der-Rohe-Platz 1.
The reading will explore events in Dessau across politics, urban development, industry, crafts and trade, art, dance, theatre and music, fashion, literature, sport, club life and many other areas that engaged the city’s inhabitants at the time. Among other things, the second quarter of 1926 saw: the 25th anniversary of the Dessau Consumers’ Cooperative; a celebrated guest performance by the Viennese and Berlin Max Reinhardt theatres at the Friedrich Theatre in Dessau, featuring Carlo Goldoni’s three-act comedy The Servant of Two Masters; the death of Dessau’s honorary citizen Otto Frenckel, the dissolution of the Legal Protection Association for Women, proposals to improve theatre funding, and the precarious financial situation of Junkers Aircraft and Engine Works.
Zu dieser Veranstaltung laden das Stadtarchiv Dessau-Roßlau und die Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau ein.
Der Eintritt ist frei.
